THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN WARSAW PROMOTES THE PHILIPPINES ON POLISH TV
28 December 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw was invited to TVP’s popular and long-running Pytanie na Śniadanie (Question for Breakfast) show on 28 December 2022 to talk about the Philippine customs and traditions to welcome and celebrate the New Year 2023.
Mr. Alejandro Ricardo D. Ruiz, Spouse of Philippine Ambassador Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz, and Cultural Officer Ma. Chloe O. Silverio, joined TVP Program Hosts, Ms. Małgorzata Tomaszewska & Aleksander Sikora, who posed questions during the Philippine segment entitled Zwyczaje Sylwestrowe na Filipinach (New Year’s Eve Traditions in the Philippines).
Mr. Ruiz provided a lively description of New Year’s Eve practices in the Philippines such as (a) preparing and eating sticky foods (b) displaying 12 kinds of fruits (c) wearing polka dot clothes (d) putting cash in the wallet (e) opening windows and doors (f) ensuring rice, sugar and salt containers are full (g) making loud noises such as fireworks or banging pots and pan (h) going to mass. He highlighted the basket filled with 12 kinds of fruits, a tray of Arroz Valenciana, and a bottle filled with rice, placed on top of the table at the TVP studio as examples of these practices.
The Philippine Embassy welcomes the opportunity presented by TVP to promote the Philippines and enhance the awareness and appreciation by the Polish public of the customs and traditions of the Filipino people during the Christmas and New Year season.
