The 03 May 1791 Constitution, which was adopted by the Sejm of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, was the first written fundamental law in Europe and the second oldest one in the world. It has been celebrated as a National Holiday since 1919, except during World War II and the period thereafter, and was restored as such in 1990 under a sovereign Republic of Poland.  END
