THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN WARSAW COMMEMORATES THE 124TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARTYRDOM OF NATIONAL HERO DR. JOSE RIZAL
On 30 December 2020, the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw joined the entire Filipino nation in commemorating the 124th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
The event began with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by the Panunumpa sa Watawat. Ambassador Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz led the floral offering before the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal, assisted by Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Mardomel Celo D. Melicor.
The ceremony was highlighted by the reading of the Huling Paalam in alternating languages per stanza – in Filipino by Finance Officer Marden Garduque, in English by Consular Assistant and Property Officer Roberto Reyes, and in Spanish by Administrative Officer Sylvia Reyes.
In her closing remarks, Ambassador Ruiz stressed that the commemoration of the martyrdom of the National Hero Dr. Rizal at the Philippine Embassy, aimed to underline the Filipinos’ patriotism and undying love for country as exemplified by Dr. Rizal, and also symbolized hope and resilience even in the midst of the raging pandemic.
