The Mazovian Championships of Filipino Martial Arts Academy on Stick-Fighting was held recently in Zabki, Poland with the “Honorary Patronage” of the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw upon the request of Mr. Robert Kwiatkowski, president of the Akademia Filipinskich Sztuk Walki (Filipino Martial Arts Academy-Omega Sports). Around 50 youngsters, whose ages range from 7 to 20 years old, competed in the event which was attended by more than 200 people. The Akademia Filipinskich Sztuk Walki promotes indigenous Filipino martial arts in Poland by providing training in arnis and tsako. It also offers courses on tae-kwondo, karate, and self-defense for women. The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw harnessed the event to increase awareness about the Philippines; project a positive profile of our country; promote Philippine tourism in line with the DOT’s “Visit the Philippines 2016,” and promote Philippine trade by introducing the Philippines’ iconic San Miguel beer and mango juice. As part of the opening ceremony, the video produced for the Philippines’s hosting of the World Economic Forum-Asia and the video “Its More Fun in the Philippines” were played. In line with the Embassy’s “culinary diplomacy,” Filipino dishes such as adobo, lumpiang sariwa, lumpiang prito, and mango juice were served. Give-away bags each containing the Polish version of the “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” tourism brochure, a bottle of San Miguel beer, and a CD of Philippine Kundiman songs were given to the organizers and judges.
