PHILIPPINE EMBASSY WELCOMES DMW’S OUTREACH TO FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN POLAND THROUGH TOWNHALL MEETING IN WARSAW

06 October 2024, Warsaw – The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw welcomed the active engagement of the newly-established Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and its Prague-based Migrant Workers Office (MWO) with the rapidly-growing Filipino Community in Poland, in remarks delivered by First Secretary & Consul Alena S. Borra during a Townhall Meeting held on Sunday, 06 October 2024, at the Mercure Warszawa Centrum.

Consul Borra further underscored that even as the DMW has taken on the role as the principal government agency in charge of overseas employment of Filipino nationals and the overall welfare of Filipino migrant workers, the transition does not diminish the commitment of the DFA and its embassies and consulates to Filipino nationals abroad, through the efficient delivery of consular and assistance-to-nationals services. The embassy will continue to work closely with MWO-Prague on labor-related concerns, and shall take the lead on the broader issue of migration policy, as well as in engaging with the Filipino diaspora on political, economic, cultural, and academic matters.

The Townhall Meeting was organized by MWO-Prague as part of the programme of activities for the visit of a DMW delegation, led by DMW Assistant Secretary Levinson C. Alcantara, to Poland from 04 to 08 October 2024. The DMW officials conducted presentations for the Filipino Community which included an overview of the mandate of the DMW; the programs launched to fight illegal recruitment, third-country hiring, and human trafficking; and welfare services of the DMW for Filipino migrant workers.
