PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN WARSAW AND FILIPINO COMMUNITY CELEBRATE THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DECLARATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE

18 June 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw, together with members of the Filipino community, celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence at the Philippine Embassy Grounds.

The Flag Raising Ceremony commenced with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Embassy’s Finance Officer Marden Garduque.

Ambassador Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz read the Independence Day Message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., followed by Consul Geronimo Suliguin, Jr. who read the Independence Day Message of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo.

The second part of the program was the Independence Day Thanksgiving Mass which was officiated by Rev. Fr. Tirso Alcover Jr., RCJ. At the end of the mass, Ambassador Ruiz delivered her Independence Day Message for the Filipinos in Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine.

The Embassy personnel and members of their family and the members of the Filipino community who attended the celebration, some of whom travelled from outside Warsaw, then partook of the traditional Independence Day Salo-Salo. While sharing the popular pancit, pork and chicken adobo, and a variety of other Filipino dishes and desserts, the guests were treated to a special presentation by members of the Jesus is Lord Movement in Poland.

The celebration featured a Townhall Meeting on Consular and ATN Services conducted by Consul Geronimo Suliguin, Jr., who introduced the new Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Migrant Workers Office. Labor Attache Atty. Llewelyn Perez, the head of the Labor Office of the Philippine Embassy in Prague, spoke online to describe the mandate and functions of the DMW/MWO-Prague and the services it offers to the Filipinos under its jurisdiction.
