Philippine Ambassador joins in the celebration of the 105th Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia
19 November 2023, Riga – Ambassador Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz, non-resident Philippine Ambassador to Latvia, travelled from Warsaw to Riga to convey the warm greetings and felicitations of the Government and People of the Republic of the Philippines to the Government and People of the Republic of Latvia on the occasion of the 105th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia on 18 November 2023.
Together with the Ambassadors/Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to Latvia, Ambassador Ruiz attended the traditional National Day Reception at the Small Guild on 17 November 2023 hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Krišjānis Kariņš.
On 18 November 2023, she joined the flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument led by H.E. President Edgars Rinkēvičs, which was followed by the Ceremonial Session of the Saeima and Vin d’Honneur hosted by Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mierina.
Together with the thousands of beaming and festive Latvians, she also witnessed the National Armed Forces Parade at the Krastmala Embankment near the River Daugava composed of approximately 1,500 soldiers, units of international forces, national guardsmen, policemen, border guards, firefighters and cadets. Amidst the concerts and musical performances throughout the evening was the Evening Reception hosted by President Rinkēvičs at the historic Riga Castle.
The Philippines and Latvia marked the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations on 17 December 2021. Both countries share a common love for freedom, independence, and democracy and a shared interest to promote and safeguard the rule of law. Both sides are therefore actively taking steps to expand the growing and strengthening ties towards a higher level in the years ahead. –
