The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) will celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on 03 December 2016 and adopted the theme “Disability Inclusive Sustainable Cities and Communities.”
The Day’s observance is being commemorated every December 3 annually as per UN General Assembly Resolution 47/3 issued on 14 October 1992, to promote awareness and mobilize support for critical issues pertaining to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.
It also aims to generate greater public awareness and improve the understanding on the plight of persons with disabilities for them to achieve the future they want relative to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to have a dignified life that will allow them to grow and flourish.
The theme adopted by the UN this year is “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want” which highlights the recent adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In the Philippines, it adopted the theme “Disability Inclusive Sustainable Cities and Communities” which is aligned with Eleventh Sustainable Development Goal.
