Cultural Officer and Gender and Development (GAD) Officer Ms. Imelda de Joya gave a short lecture on how to empower rural women and girls and showed a video-documentary entitled “Kababaihan ng Rebolusyon” produced by the Philippines’ National Historical Commission (NHCP).
The documentary featured Filipino women patriots such as Gabriela Silang, Melchora Aquino, Agueda Kahabagan, Patrocinio Gamboa, Teresa Magbanua, Clemencia Lopez, and Gregoria de Jesus. These women exemplified the virtues of patience, hope, courage, and willingness to sacrifice one’s life for love of country.
Political Officer Mr. Ramon Ebalo reminded the members of the Filipino community about the ongoing registration for overseas absentee voting (OAV) for the May 2019 elections. The OAV registration will end on 30 September 2018. Mr. Jose Magaso manned the OAV registration table during the community meeting.
Consul Alnee Gamble conducted the Sunday consultation session for OFWs under the Embassy’s “Kabayan, Idulog mo sa Embassy” program and had a Q & A session with them. The “pulong bayan” was preceded by a Palm Sunday mass officiated by Fr. Herbie Canete upon the request of the Filipino community.
