The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw and The Association of Filipino community in Poland hosted the celebration of the 116th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence on 22 June 2014 at the Embassy grounds.
Fr. Andrzej Sudol, a Polish priest on vacation in Warsaw who has been assigned to different parishes in Mindanao, officiated the mass. The choir which sang during the mass was led by Mr. Joseph Balsamo. Consul Randy Arquiza read the Independence Day message of President Benigno Aquino III and Mrs. Marilyn Dypczynski read the message of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F. del Rosario.
In her remarks, Ambassador Paez exhorted the Filcom to unite to achieve the goals of Filipino nationhood. She lauded the efforts of the Filcom organization led by its President, Mr. Alex Visalda, and enjoined all Filipinos in Poland to join the newly-founded group because there is strength in numbers.
The celebration was highlighted by a dance interpretation of a Filipino patriotic song by Mr. Louie Castillo and Ms. Rose Templanza, by song renditions of Mr. David Hisoler, Ms. Marissa Perin and Mrs. Marilyn Dypczynski, and by dance numbers performed by the Dhangz Dancers led by Ms. Dhangz Amantil and by a group led by Ms. Andrea Represca. Various parlor games provided fun to the children and entertained the crowd.
In the spirit of public service, the Philippine Embassy opened its Consular Section to accept passport applications and provided the Filcom with the opportunity to register in the Overseas Voting for the upcoming elections in 2016.
